Brian- Beach Boys reunion?

Mike Love helped write some of the early lyrics, but as Dennis Wilson once said, "Brian is the Beach Boys. We're only his messengers." Brian and his new band, aka The Wondermints, is the real deal. There is no way that Mike Love's beach Boys "sound even better" today- they don't have the talent of the Wondermints, the soul of brian, and Love's voice is a shell of its former self. For someone supposedly so spiritual and meditative, Love is one of the biggest whacko scumbags in music. One thing is true, though- he did contribute to the early beach Boys sound, both vocally and lyrically.

I'm sorry, but most of what I've read here is absolutely irresponsible, naive, and frankly, ridiculous. To assume that one has cancer or any physical disease or breakdown due to unresolved psychological issues, particularly dishonesty, and to pass judgment or utter such with absolute certainty based upon this turn of events and the ancient, ignorant, scientifically unproven school of thought known as astrology is in itself an arrogant, foolish, and harmful energy to subject upon people. We shall all get sick and we shall all die. "Even the good die young."

It is not explained, nor manipulated quite so easily. No need to respond. I am shocked by this "discussion." And, yes, I too do not know the people involved. The ones who blog. I know nothing about your life, your lives. But I do know when something rings so false that it is to be avoided. No, I am not threatened. I am not touched. But I feel for those who are so desperate for answers, for explanations, if not solutions, that rather than embrace and accept the unknown, they distort it for themselves and their innocent victims.

There is no religion, no culture, no book, no guru, no map that can explain all there is. Believe what you want. But don't project it onto other people, because reality is not a universal vision.

Politically correction

I find most news nowadays offensive, let's stop airing it. The less details the better. Do we really need to hear all the gory reasons why someone died? In fact, must we be in a state of continual depression because every day someone else has died? From now on, when someone dies, let's just stop talking about them. Bette yet- let's stop talking about people who make us feel like we need a good bath- people like those on Fox News, Sarah Palin, Lou Dobbs.... Please- no more "reality shows!" They make me feel worse about myself, not better! And please retire Jay Leno once and for all. As for People in the News: no mention of race, creed, sex, and most of all- no mention of "who you're wearing" at awards shows!

Winget's rant

Regarding healthcare, I believe that it is immoral to deny anyone healthcare, period. Who or what pays for it is another matter. There is not enough focus on prevention, as Obama has been saying, but to penalize someone for smoking? Drinking? Eating? How about denying healthcare to those who don’t wear a seat belt, eat unhealthy foods, stay at stressful jobs, text while driving, fight with their spouses, take up sports such as boxing or race car driving…. What about politicians who promote divisiveness and hatred? Also, there’s a big difference between diseases of addiction, ignorance, and self-destruction. If someone is mentally ill and attempts literal suicide, is it a non-reimbursable expense to care for them if they survive? If not, what if they do it slowly- by drinking, smoking, other “risky” behaviors. We’re stuck with opinions, and mere decisions, because, damn right- it’s all too complicated for a simple Right or Wrong. Usually. For me, Fox news and today’s Republican Party are no-brainers- literally. They have nothing good to contribute. I’ll take my chances with the imperfect Democrats, the intelligence of Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, and yes- Larry Winget.

Palin again

In a saner country, and world, her being on TV would be out of the question, or definitely doomed to failure. But there are enough sick, dumb whackos out there to love her as much if not more than Rush Limbaugh. I wouldn't celebrate so soon- we think she's going away but she may be in our faces (and ears) more than ever. Imagine a late night talk show on Fox with Palin and Coulter in the Johnny and Ed roles. Seriously, I'm beginning to think that the only worthwhile competition for Obama and the Democrats is a party that's more to the left rather than right... now That would be interesting!

When I heard the news, a part of me wasn’t shocked. I hadn’t realized, however, that I had gone INTO shock. It was like a huge bomb went off in my brain. I watched the news for a while, took it all in, and then crawled into bed and went to sleep. I was incapable of doing anything else. His life, music, and death just keep sinking further and further in as the sense of loss becomes more and more acute.

I believe I will watch it, to learn. I am both saddened and horrified by what she's gone through. I hope I am not too traumatized by what I see, because it seems the message may be of hope and admiration for her courage, strength, and spirit, but also one of futility. What most of us fear- cancer is a horrible, nightmarish death sentence. I do not feel hopeful knowing all her money and endeavors to survive will be for naught. Then again, there is something to be gained from learning how to die- a subject swept under the carpet for most of us. We all consume ourselves with learning how to live- but if death is part of life, we can't ignore it- though I'd like to.

I must say, watching my parents die taught me a lot. In both cases, in the end- love triumphs.

Beatles

A lot of opinions, negative or otherwise. I too have only opinions. My opinion is that the Beatles were in the right place at the right time, the whole was greater than the sum of its parts- which was enormous in itself. All of them did great work within and without the group. Each had at least one or two classic solo albums, and together and seperately, they are at the toppermost of the poppermost now and forever. As human beings, like all of us, none were perfect- not even Ringo. That is how it should be- and that's what makes their success and brilliance all the more remarkable. Perhaps, like the Blues Brothers, they surely were on a "Mission from God."

Y'all can buy the crap that is Windows, follow the Microsoft butt-kisser that is the author of this "reporting," and have a nice life.

I just returned from the mall, stopped by the Apple Store and Best Buy while I was there. It is quite evident to me why the PC's and Macs I saw were priced as they were- the PC's were mostly real ugly crap. I used to be a fan of Toshiba's, but their new laptops are ugly as sin, as HP's shiny black plastic is and Dell's are just.. ugh.. Dells.

And that's just the hardware! Both Best Buy and Apple had Macs- with Mac OS X. Long term cost of ownership- much cheaper than PC's. User experience- priceless.

Unlike the idiots in the Microsoft commercials, I own Macs but work as a cross-platform Tech Support Specialist. I even bought a PC to broaden my horizons and help my PC-using friends.

Today, I have no interest in running Windows on my Mac or any PC.

If I'm gonna buy a car, I'll buy a Honda or Toyota- used, if necessary. I don't like junk.

And I appreciate innovation and quality. That's why I'll use a Mac, and I don't care if you don't.

Not-so-Swell Season

Their music is my favorite of the last several years. I was overwhelmed by the movie and them- I was bummed by the movie's ending but now even more bummed by their real split. I am reassured they will continue to make music together (for now), but a good deal of that music's attraction is the palpable love it suggests and reflects. Those harmonies are orgasmic- to think they're going through the motions or hearing that music in a different context now is painful to me. Guess it didn't hurt Fleetwood Mac or many others- but my favorite YouTube clip is The Swell Season performing Dylan's You Aint Goin' Nowhere, and the entire time he can barely refrain from kissing her, she's so cute. Finally he does, mid-song, she blushes, and the crowd goes nuts. It's so sad that moment is over.

Windows 7 blabbers

How would anyone know yet when and if Windows 7 "works?" More examples of people blabbing about things they know nothing about. Gates retired as CEO; Steve sat out a keynote. Not quite the same thing.

I remember some Mac "journalists" claiming at first glance that Vista looked "fresh.." then we all quickly found out what a mess it was. Windows 7 may be better, but there's a much bigger problem, one that will persist- it's still spray-painted DOS. Unlike Mac OS X, which is a completely different OS than Mac "Classic," Windows is still Windows. And it requires annual subscriptions to the best and most anti-virus and spyware utilities you can afford.

CBS6 News

Liz Bishop and partner seem to think that "She Loves You" is the gold standard by which all other Beatles recordings, past and newly discovered, should be measured. Therefore, why would Paul McCartney even think of tampering with our memories of this one, great hit by releasing this 14-minute previously unheard experimental recording done by the group. I really doubt that hearing this new song will alter She Loves You's place in history, and certainly won't change our way of hearing A Day in the Life and Eleanor Rigby. Might be nice, actually, played back to back with Revolution #9.

Sigh. Sounds like "Smallbany" TV News.

More on tattoos

I find tattoos repulsive. They literally hurt my eyes. They're not exercises in rebellion or individuality- they're a moronic fad that quite simply, LOOKS trashy even if the person isn't. As an artist and painter- I am appalled by the defacement and mutilation of God's creations. Philosophy aside, I just think they're ALL ugly- the plastering of ink on rock musicians, the little butterflies on ankles, the horrible distractive symbol on a woman's back, belly, or hip- no, what turns me on are the gorgeous, unmarred curves and expanses of unmarked, unpierced, virginal flesh that we were all born with, whatever the color, size, or shape. That blotch of ink, no matter how meaningful to the misguided soul, is simply ugly as hell.

Dylan review

As a musician, I can relate to the comment that dancing energizes the performer. They pick up on the energy and enthusiasm, and are inspired to give even more. As a listener/fan, I'd like to drop-kick some of these mindless, inconsiderable deadheads who block my view and disrupt my concentration and enjoyment. That's why I'm more likely to buy DVD's these days than pay a fortune to subject myself to that frustration. And, yes- it's true- as the journalist Al Aronowitz once said, Dylan is the Heavyweight Champion of the World.

It occurs to me reading some of these hate-filled idiotic, racist, sexist rants that as far as I'm concerned personally, "the Enemy" isn't necessarily a terrorist from another country, but a despicable, illiterate moron who thinks he or she is an American patriot because of his compulsive use of the word "liberal," which is acceptable to use as a weapon whereas the "N" word is not. MISTER-ALL-CAPS!!! Shut up!

Dylan

I can't wait to listen to the new CD's. The world is a better place with him still in it. There has never been anyone like him, and at his white-hot peak in the late 60's, he was completely untouchable. He's made some bad records, and his voice is more shot now than Satchmo's- but that's how he uses it- as a different instrument. A few years ago, I was watching him sing while on tour with Paul Simon. Simon came out and sang like Paul Simon. Dylan came out and altered every song. No way could Joan Baez do an impersonation of This Dylan! I was confused, a little disappointed. Then I realized that not only wasn't he trying to sound like Bob Dylan, he wasn't necessarily trying to limit himself to rock and roll or even the blues. What he was doing with his voice was what Miles Davis did with his trumpet. As I began to listen to what I now felt was more like jazz music, my expectations evaporated and I was absolutely mesmerized.

I love Paul, too- but Dylan made him look like a lightweight.

McCain cancels

Letterman was brilliant. This was the old Dave from NBC days. Point is, not only was he "Jilted," so's the country thanks to McJerk's straight-talking express diversion. As Obama said, a president very often has to do more than one thing at a time. They've got a media blackout on whacko Palin, and he's trying to weasel out of debates. As Olberman said- perfect opportunity to hear the two candidates talk about the economy. But McDufus "doesn't know much about the economy." So he has to run to Katie Couric.. er, Washington to fix it. If people can't see through this then I am as convinced as Bill Maher that there is no hope, that this country is predominantly filled with racist mongoloid idiots. This is fake-Christian-Deliverance, y'all. Believe it or not, if Obama loses, this is gonna hurt way, way more than the George W years. We may not even survive it.
