I’ve been blind drunk, Twilight-Zone lost, angry and hateful, arrested and defended- and I never, ever made a racist remark. Yes, alcohol distorts- but only what’s already in there. You squeeze a toothpaste tube and you know what comes out. We also know what’s inside Mel Gibson- those who protest either agree with the drunk Mel or are naive and/or ignorant.

Chuck's last hurrah?
E-Mail between me and Dave:
I didn't know you were recording also! The mic attenuator I bought helped with the distortion, but the recording still sounded like crap. Then again- the mic was in a cubby hole not facing anything, including the PA- so the vocals sounded horrible and muddy- and of course, there was just one mic, no stereo. No CD just yet!
I couldn't tell much about Chuck since it sounded like he was playing a tambourine- but you can hear the effects of his drumming- no punch, no precision, and the whole band sounded out of sync.
I hate to say it, but nearly as bad as Chuck was Rick- in fact, he made the most glaring mistakes. I'm afraid if anyone scared her off, it was him- his playing, and the way he put her on the spot by asking her several times if she'd play the gig with us, if she'd come back, etc. She looked visibly uncomfortable when he spoke to her, she was much more at ease with Chuck. She must wonder what our standards are if we'd have her do a gig after playing with us just once!
But you're right- her keyboard playing is better than her singing, and Chuck dragged the band down in a way a novice wouldn't necessarily pin down. His sucking makes us All sound worse.
As usual, I couldn't bear to listen to my own singing- I know I can't be objective, and I at least sounded better when I ran a few tracks through this software "normalizing" the levels- bring the mix up and clarifying it. It made me realize also that the acoustics in the room are absolutely horrible, as was the mic placement. I sing better when I can hear myself, and it's tough in that room. But, as a jazz dude told me years ago- "don't listen to the tapes, man- you'll go mad." He too hated recording himself unless you have a great setup. Still, I'm gonna keep trying- very educational....
No, what surprised me about the recording was that it wasn't so much what Chuck sounded like individually, it's how he affected the overall sound. I'd love to compare each song track by track with him versus Kenny. Also, the keyboards at times really muddied things up or were intrusive- best track was "Wonderful Tonight," though she overplayed some riffs.
(Her playing was best on "Imagine"- she really nailed that.)
I'll wait till after her other audtion today, then ask her what she thought.
after listened to my boom box recording yesterday i think chuck has worsened he missed crucial spots in baby blue , shaken all over, white room and many more..roll over Beethoven was so bad i cant keep time with him...lastly did you record rockin in the free world? he dragged so bad it sounded like he was playing another song under neath us.. i think hes going backward... i just wonder if he scared this girl off, shes very talented, she must have known nothing was tight cause of him...i hope no problem arises with kenny before this wknd.... we are so fortunate to have him if only just this time...i'm going to play along with a lot of deep purple during this week to try to put chucks drum pollution out of my mind, i just hope its not contagious !!

Superior? You should try playing a game that supports surround sound and uses EAX technology. Can’t do that on OSX at all. Build .NET applications? Nope.

One of the reasons I don’t Need Windows- an entirely different list from the one called “Why I Much Prefer a Mac”- is that I’ve got too many interests and things going on in my life- musician, artist, tech support specialist- to have the slightest interest in playing computer games as the clock keeps ticking away. Bang!- you’re dead. At least, not really alive. Oh, I like to veg, and rest, and play- but I’m too old and too young for the gaming. But we are digressing, aren’t we?……

TV's PC Guy: So, to get into character as the PC, does that take some sort of method acting?
No, I’m not an actor, per se . . . . I was out there in the wilderness with PCs feeling completely frustrated, and appreciating their attempt to be nice and easy to use and constantly amazed by the fact that they were the most confusing boobs. I myself am a Mac user. I bought the very first Mac, or convinced my father to buy it, in 1984. I used it through high school and college; it was the first computer I used outside of college, then I went though a brief period of exile during my corporate years as a professional literary agent, where I was forced to use a PC . . . . Mac has always gotten the design and the interface down pat. They just know it. PC’s efforts to emulate this, and its constant failing, and its self-satisfied arrogance about it being the most used platform in the world, all of that made it very easy to craft a character who, while he is a boob, and often concerned about how he comes off, at his core really feels bad for the Mac. Is really so delusional to believe he’s much cooler than the Mac. The whole reason they’re standing in that white room is because he’s trying to help the Mac out.
From Woz's bio, on Steve Jobs: What did the two Steves do in the early days, pre-Apple Computer?
”Steve and I were into listening to Bob Dylan and his lyrics, trying to figure out who was better, Dylan or the Beatles. We both favored Dylan because the songs were about life and living and values in life and what was really important.”

SNL
SNL has sucked for years, but it's always had its moments and that's why I keep coming back. So you laugh a bit, sit through a bunch of crap, then are shocked again by something actually quite good- and funny. It's also at its best when it takes on this particular administration and other idiots in Washington. Amy is great doing "Rick! Rick!" but not so great on Update- none of them appear up to that job, especially when you think of John Stewart and Colbert's stuff.

Mr. Brittney Spears posting
auramac | 8/21/2006, 7:36 pm EST
Who can be surprised? He’s an idiot- of course he sucks. It’s like a plague, the crap being released- Paris Hilton- Justin Timberlake, too is a machine. Any decent producer nowadays can make a gas attack into a numerical entry on Billboard magazine, as long as there’s a video featuring half-naked dancers available.

My last Tera posting
I am saddened and in shock. I kept thinking and hoping those newer and better meds would keep coming. Her impact and the depth of the loss is amazing considering most of us have never met her- and knew her only through her incredibly insightful and powerful writing.
”Nothing improves without change.”
Ah, yes- but the world is a lesser place now, for sure.
