"The Middle"

These faith-based groups are as alien to me as the terrorists- they just use different weapons. If that's the "middle," I'd rather be off the page.

C'mon, Obama- lot of people don't vote because the politicians all seem the same. That's not how you got where you are.

If that's what "America" is- religious fanatics wearing flag pins, self-titled conservatives, anti-semitic hypocritical homophobic sexually deviant racists in sheep's clothing singing "God Bless America," then I am ashamed of a lot more than President Bush coming from the Dixie Chicks' homeland.

Krassner on Carlin

The world is a lonelier place. George Carlin was irreplaceable- I too remember reading the Realist, llistening to Dylan, the Beatles, people like George Carlin who reminded me of Paul Simon's line "I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce."

Hard to figure out the truth anymore... I'm still searching. I look at Bill Maher and Keith Olbermann, never really sure. Does any musician nowadays come close, or are they simply naive? Am I naive? It's like looking for God- what do I know? I know nothing.

I had so much respect for George Carlin that I felt better about that.

More bad grammar

   A pet peeve of mine, too. Everywhere I look, there are writers and journalists who don’t know how to spell. “Its” and the whole “your” thing drive me nuts- very confusing to read at times. The purpose of correct grammar and spelling is not to score a passing grade in elementary school English- it is to enable accurate communication and grammar.

   Especially “your”- as in “your mistake,” Not “your not spelling the word correctly!” “You’re (you are) not spelling the word correctly!!!

   No wonder the economy is going down the tubes… better educational systems in China and India, I suppose.

Paul sings John

Paul has done John tributes before, never a Day in the Life, though, I don’t think. It was doubly emotional seeing Yoko and Olivia together in the audience, with Yoko smiling when Paul went into Give Peace a Chance. His singing would probably be a bit better if he gave up the weed- but those who somehow get pleasure in ridiculing him for whatever reason are pretty pathetic, shallow, ignorant little snots. The joy Paul and that band has brought the world is absolutely immeasurable. You can cry tears of joy or sadness at almost anything left to hear from them.

Bo Diddley

I have Bo Diddley albums that cover all kinds of material- rock, blues, and, of course- Bo Diddley music. Like Chuck Berry- he could’ve written the same song a million times over and every one of them would be great. You never get tired of that beat. Seeing him while hearing him play was as surreal and intense as it gets. The man, the guitar, the maracas and band replaced your own eyes, ears, and heart when he played. Heart failure? The beat goes on- forever.

Hang seperately

I went to Hillary's site last night , as she suggested, to offer my opinion. I said I would've voted for Bill again if he could've served a third term. I was always an admirer of both Clintons. But it's time to unify the party behind Obama. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised, but reading the comments of her supporters was very unsettling- more inarticulate and deranged than the most heated American Idol discussions. Yes, this is a passionate election, but the threats to vote for McCain and never, ever "that Obama" were startling. I hope Hillary isn't listening to these messages- or proud of them. Perhaps this sort of "passion" isn't limited to just her and her website, but John McCain- sorry- you know better, and I hate to say this- but I'm not sure I "trust" all of the American people. After all, Bush got in twice. And there is a lot of sexism and racism, spoken and unspoken that are big factors here. It's frightening. I live in NY State. I'd be scared to leave- it's relatively sane here- but not everywhere. Even in my own circles, I detect these very sins, unspoken, and rationalized among some acquaintances. One more thing- how is it that so many people can't spell?
