My wife loves a firm mattress, I've favored softer. We both somehow agreed on a Tempurpedic Deluxe, and are thoroughly spoiled now and love it. Other beds don't measure up, not even Sleep Number, and what's more- she no longer feels my "restless legs" kicking away all night. Now, if it could only absorb (her) snoring!....
